South Asian Journalists Association and Gallery ArtsIndia invites you to meet one of India's leading female artists, Anjolie Ela Menon. Please join us on Wednesday, November 10, 2004, 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Cocktails and hors'doeuvres with the artist begin at 6:30 pm, and a discussion with Menon will begin at 7:00 pm. The event will be held at Gallery ArtsIndia located at 206 Fifth Avenue, 5th floor. The exhibition runs from November 9 to December 5, 2004.
Anjolie Ela Menon is one of India's preeminent Contemporary Indian artists. Menon's unique style has constantly evolved over the past four decades of her career, as she continually re-envisions her role as an artist. In the 60s and 70s, Anjolie began exploring the human pathos through haunted modernist forms, then moved to adopt characteristics of Christian medieval art in the 70s and 80s, and eventually worked with found objects in the 90s. This show of recent works comes full circle and is reminiscent of Anjolie's earlier style as she explores social issues and human anguish through figurative works.
This highly anticipated show is the first solo show of Anjolie Ela Menon outside India in the past 5 years. Menon's works are included in leading international collections.
