My brother-in-law sent me this link and I was really amazed at how things have progressed in India. Tamil rap? Well, we have had that for some time but these guys sound (and might I add, look) like rappers out of Compton. Their sound and look at times is reminiscent of Bone Thugs~n~Harmony, one of my favorite rap groups.
King, Commonor, Citizen: A Prashant Panjiar Exhibit
The America India Foundation is hosting a photo exhibition by Prashant Panjiar, the uber talented photojournalist out of India whose work I have long coveted. Well, the wait is over. Panjiar has a book and an online gallery (hosted by India Picture) that invites fans like me to buy his prints. The added benefit is 50% of the proceeds go to help The America India Foundation. Everybody wins and wins big.
And for the record, this is the image that I want to grace my wall at home. At Rs. 35,000 (for the largest size) it comes to a very reasonable $890. I am still tempted to pass the hat around.
Links for October 12, 2007
As desi's go, we love our potato chips. But I guess they can now kill you … slowly. Check out this link. Is this for real or is it a hoax? Let me know.
I don't have a MySpace page but with SnapLayout, I am might be tempted to start one up.
The Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar runs from November 30 through December 1, 2007
The Asia Society is hosting a photo exhibit by Javeed Shah, a photojournalist who has extensively documented life in Kashmir. Anyone got a link to Mr. Shah's website?
ScanSafe is another service that offers to scan your negatives and slides. These seem to be popping up a lot. Are we heading back to using film again?
David duChemin's Pixelated Image is a near daily read as the man can make images AND write. It's such a thrill to be able to get the best of both worlds in one spot. His recent posts about self-promotion for photographers is a must-read. Here is part 1 where he talks about creating an identity for yourself and here is part 2 where he describes the four pillars of self-promotion. David also offers a photo mentor program and a portfolio critique program for a fee [we all have to eat don't we?]
These get bigger and better all the time and I want one for the home
Ann Coulter = Blech!
This post is so far removed from photography or anything else that I love. However, I came across a link [via Mediabistro.com] that so riled me up that I had to post it here. It's about Ann Coulter, the conservative motor mouth and Bush-apologist saying to The Big Idea's Donny Deutsch that it would be best for the country (perhaps even the world) if everybody just became Christian. Here is the link. That Coulter comes off as insensitive to a wide range of topics is not debated here. But now, add anti-semitic to the list.
Part me feels incredibly nauseated when I read crap like this. How do you feel about it?
Being A Photo Dad
Found this very cute YouTube video on Strobist [bookmark this site damnit!]
This was on Strobist for a reason. It shows a photographer/dad using off-camera lighting to produce some really cool pictures. Take a hint and take your flash off camera for more dynamic image making!
And check out LightSite, a Google-based custom search engine that will plumb the depths of these fine flash light oriented teaching websites:
