Camera toting paparaazi take note: Hewlett-Packard is developing a device that would jam electronic cameras. And Nokia has a GPS in the works which will encourage paparazzi to find people who don't mind having their photograph being taken.
Phaidon Press publishes some of the world’s most respected photography books, working with renowned photographers including James Nachtwey, René Burri and Nan Goldin. A rare opportunity has arisen to work with leading artists, such as these, to produce books of outstanding quality and beauty. Reporting to the Operations Director, the successful candidate will work with the editors and photographers, and be responsible for co-ordinating and managing all stages of book and packaging production, from design concept to the finished book. The role requires: thorough knowledge of the latest repro and print technologies; minimum 5 years’ relevant experience of the reproduction of photography, ideally in book form; meticulous eye for detail and colour;ability to colour correct and press pass; confidence to liaise and work with creative leaders in photography and book design; imaginative yet commercial approach to realising innovative concepts; self-motivation and the ability to manage multiple projects within schedule and on budget; excellent communication, interpersonal, IT and numeric skills. Deadline is December 3. This contest is only meant for photogs based and working in India.

To be totally honest with you all, if it weren't for my virtual buddy Prashant Mullick [never met him] and his timely nudge to expand on something I had said on Sepia Mutiny, I wouldn't be playing host to The Scientific-Indian Melt, um, Scian Melt for short.
From my perspective, the connection between science and photography is much too obvious. Now, with digital photography reigning supreme, it's even more of a linked relationship than ever. Claiming no science background [hey, I got a C in high school chemistry] or even for that matter a newly minted PhD. like some people we have come to know, I readily admit that I am a little anxious about this “science” gathering. But with experts like you to explain your findings in illustrative posts, I am sure I will be able to keep up. [deep breath … now exhaling]
That brings us to a request. If you are a blogger steeped in science and have some way to tie a recent science-oriented post to the Indian subcontinent [on your site or something you have read on another website], please send in your entries to me at ONLY the following email address: tiffinboxmedia [at] gmail [dot] com. Sebastiao Salgado is presumably a very patient man. His project documenting refugees in the Sahel, south of the Sahara, has finally been published after a 20-year wait.
“The book [Sahel: The End Of The Road] was finally published last month through the intercession of Ken Light, a professor at the University of California who directs its Center for Photography, which publicizes important but forgotten works of documentary photographers.”
I do hope you will honor this important work and buy the book.
