Evidence of My Existence is a book and a short documentary by photojournalist Jim Lo Scalzo. It's necessary viewing and reading if you are in the business of documenting the world. Here is an excerpt. [Links via MediaStorm]
Are You CLEAR For Take Off?
Anil Dash, who apparently shares the same case of Flying While Brown as I do, has hit upon a new service called Clear Card. Check it out.
Yes, it doesn't come cheap, but if you value your time, you fly frequently and don't want the hassle at the airport, this may be the way to go.
“Clear® is the fast pass for airport security. Clear members are pre-screened and provided with a high-tech card which allows them to access designated airport security fast lanes nationwide. Clear members pass through airport security faster, with more predictability and less hassle.”
Here is Anil's post. Not all airports have this type of concierge service, but I am sure that day will come soon.
Seeing Beyond The Obvious
It was by sheer coincidence that I found the Seeing With Photography link on A Photo A Day and received an email from Partho Bhowmick, who runs the organization Blind With Camera.
Partho sent me some samples [the link to the site is apparently linked to a PowerPoint presentation that on the Safari and Firefox browsers doesn't show up. Something he may want to rectify]
Anyway, it has taken be some time to post these but I have held on to them because they are so special. Shot by the visually impaired, it calls to question our ability to see beyond the obvious when we raise the camera to our functioning eyes. For these artists and the work presented here, one gets the sense that they “felt” something deep inside of them when they tripped the shutter. May we also harken back to those days when an image was made by technique, skill and gut instinct.
Anjali’s Prints On Sale
I met Anjali Bhargava at the Eddie Adams Workshop, about 7 years ago. Our paths have crossed thanks to her being in NY and my involvement with SAJA. As a fellow desi photographer, we have been in touch through Facebook. A couple of days back I found out that she has a print sale going on until January 15, 2008.
8×12 unframed: $85
12×18 unframed: $110
8×12 framed to 11×14*: $140
12×18 framed to 12×18*: $170
“*My frame of choice is black metal and is an 1/8″ wide which sets off the images beautifully without interfering. 12×18 prints will be full frame. Framed 8×12 images will be printed on 11×14 paper. Payments can be made by check or via PayPal.”
Check out the images she has on sale here.
This one is my personal favorite, called “Blue”:

Ok, this is an absolute time-suck, but it's too cool to pass up. Check out Drawtoy. Want the old skool version? Here it is. You might just say “far out” too.
Get Photo Inspired
It's cold outside and snuggling in front of the television might be a bigger draw than to get out and shoot some pictures for yourself. How do you keep motivated or inspired?
Lighting Mods suggests clipping coupons. Hey, no seriously, check it out. Based on an article in Digital Photo, Lighting Mods points to a PDF that you can print and then clip with some photo-centric words on them. Mix and match them and voilá you have the directive to go out and find or create what those words describe.
Too lazy to clip coupons? Com'on … ok, for you folks there is this awesome site by Viljo Marrandi that generates these words on the fly.
Get off your duff. Get inspired.
MacSanta Deals On Now
If you are a Macintosh user like me, you will want to check out MacSanta for some year-end deals on software you will put to use right away. You get one day to buy a particular software, at a 20% discount. So, you do have to keep visiting everyday. This is almost as good as the MacHeist deals last year.
I bought Hazel, from Noodlesoft this morning because I swear I have to get better organized about my files. I am eyeing WebbnoteHappy to corral all those links that I have stashed away.
The MacSanta deals go on till December 24. Remember to use the discount code: “MACSANTA07” when you pay for your software at checkout.

Today is World AIDS Day. I joined the (RED) campaign. Find out how by clicking this.
Imaginginfo.com is chalk-full of great info for professional photographers. I got hooked reading their Marketing Strategies series.
Anne Ruthmann of Photo Lovecat fame points to some great resources for small business owners (yes, especially photogs).
Laura Novak of Strategy Avenue says she has launched a new website. Keep your eyes peeled for some great DVDs, courses and live workshops with this savvy businesswoman and wedding photographer.
ACRCalibrator lets you calibrate each of your cameras. It's free. Download it here.
Strobist + Flickr = Inspiration
Need I say it? I love visiting the Strobist website on an almost daily basis. If you are a photographer, especially one who is starting out, you would be well served if you bookmark the site. Well, I had always known that David Hobby (the guy behind Strobist) had an active Flickr site. I hadn't publicized it before, but check it out here. It's full of great inspiration.
And, eh hmm .. did you download that PDF off of the Strobist site I told you about? Get to it!
