SAJA Is Calling All Photographers

Well, actually calling all photojournalists to submit work created in 2004 for the 2005 SAJA Photoforum to be held during the SAJA convention. The convention and job fair will be held from June 16 through 19, at Columbia University.

I am coordinating the photo exhibit and will play judge for the photo awards. Other judges will be announced shortly. Please download the PDF for instructions on how to submit your work [content & quality], what will be considered for the show and the annual photo awards. The deadline for this is April 18.

Please note that print and broadcast journalists with submissions your postmark deadline was today!

Asian American Literary Awards

Each year, The Asian American Writers' Workshop honors outstanding achievement in Asian American literature through the Annual Asian American Literary Awards.  Now in their eighth year, the literary awards are again taking submissions for eligible works in fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction.  

The postmark deadline for submitting work is Friday, April 22, 2004.  Please read through the guidelines below to see if your work is eligible.

Books may be nominated by literary agents, publicists, or authors.  All entries must be accompanied by an application form.  To download an application, please check this page.

Call For Submissions: 2005 SAJA PHOTOFORUM

Well, it's official. The 2005 SAJA PHOTOFORUM is on. They are looking for the very best in photojournalism from South Asia; from those who work in South Asia or who have focussed on the South Asian diaspora.

Only digital entries will be accepted and they will be due on April 18, 2005. For the entry form and how to submit yourr entry, please click the Adobe Acrobat icon you see here to the right. SAJA 2005 Photoforum Entry Form You will need Acrobat Reader to view the file.

They are doing things a bit differently this year. For the first time, they are combining entries for the SAJA Photo Awards and the SAJA PHOTOFORUM. So, your entries will be judged for the photo awards and may also be exhibited in front of 600 journalists at the SAJA annual convention, held at Columbia University.

Dart Center Fellowships

The Dart Center Ochberg Fellowship has been established by the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies and the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma in order to build a cohort of journalists better prepared to report responsibly and credibly on violence and traumatic events, including crime, family violence, natural disasters and accidents, war, and genocide.

The Dart Center provides six or more expense-paid fellowships to mid-career journalists who want to apply knowledge of emotional trauma to improving their reporting of violent events.

Fellows will attend a two-day seminar on the role emotional trauma plays in coverage of violent events, then will have access to all events and speakers in the annual conference of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. The 2005 ISTSS conference will be held November 1-6, 2005, in Toronto.

Fellowships are open to: print and broadcast reporters, photographers, editors, and producers with at least five years of journalism experience.
