My only lament is that there aren't any photographs. The Times of India resorts to some rather skanky illustration in lieu of an incredibly juicy photo essay. If I had the time and the resources, I would love to track a single diamond, from Africa to India, then from India to Belgium and onwards to New York City.

Think you can rustle up a grant from the diamon merchants collective? Is there such a thing? Is there any interest within the Gujarati community to do something like this? It would take about a year or so to complete, but something that needs to be done quickly. I feel it’s a large part of our cultural history that is just going to forgotten. Help!

Just an idea , why don’t you contact Milan Mehta, Surekhaben’s son, who just moved to his new office at 5th Ave.in Manhattan, New York city on Akshya Tritya day–11th May 2005 !!
