Subhankar Banerjee
Via John Laxmi
The Wall Street Journal reports that Subhankar Banerjee's exhibit at the Gerald Peters Gallery through October 15 “quickly dispels the stereotype that Alaska is one endless expanse of white, icy land with his breathtaking photographs of the colorful and diverse terrain of the Arctic Refuge. On display are 30 large-format images testifying to its beauty throughout the four seasons.”
Visit Banerjee's web site to see more of his spectacular images and read his mission statement. If you can, please support his worthy project.

Sylvia Plachy
Women In Photography International announced that it had honored Sylvia Plachy for its Distinguished Photographer Award for 2004.
Plachy brings an indisputable European aesthetic to her work, especially documenting life in New York City. Moody, even surreal but tangible. I feel my toes squishing through clay whenever I see her images. Her origins in Hungary and her early apprenticeship with Andre Kertesz bode her well through the years. Her book Unguided Tour is a must-have on every photographer's book shelf. The Tom Waits record in the back is a bonus.
Student Photographic Society
Students of photography should check out the Student Photographic Society. Annual membership is $29 and you get a slew of goodies for that low fee.
