Who Is Tony Corbell?
I've enjoyed learning from Tony Corbell. He is a master at light and he is also a master at teaching about light. His photography has been widely recognized for its technical excellence.
About a year or so ago, I had the pleasure of watching and learning from him at a CTPPA event here in Connecticut. He was patient, professional and totally courteous to all in the audience. Questions were answered and then explored.
He would say, “Let me show you how it is done.” And then, he would do it, walking us through the very steps he would take during a paid commercial portrait assignment.
The Giveaway
I signed up for Tony's latest CreativeLive course and when I bought it, I was given the opportunity to gift the same class to someone who hadn't signed up to a CreativeLive course before.
Read the simple rules below to possibly win this course. Remember, it's only good for those who haven't signed up or ordered a CreativeLive course before. Click on “comment” to get started. I'll make a decision by May 20th). Good luck!
Tony Teaches, Thanks Profoto
Skip Cohen will probably agree that Tony Corbell's depth and breadth of knowledge closely echoes Dean Collins (who passed away in 2005). At least, that's how I see it. Tony will be hitting a bunch of cities. Catch him on tour, thanks to Profoto. For $40, this is a no-brainer, my friends. I just wish he was coming back to either Connecticut or to Boston.
Books By Tony Corbell
If you want to go truly old school and skip the online courses or the in-person opportunity mentioned above, here are a couple of books by Tony Corbell that you should pick up:
Light & Shadow: Dynamic Lighting Design for Location Portrait Photography
Basic Studio Lighting: The Photographer's Complete Guide to Professional Techniques
Interviewing Tony Corbell
When I met Tony Corbell during his CTPPA presentation, he invited me to contact and interview him for this blog. One way to let him know of your interest, is by commenting below – ask a question about lighting, have a doubt cleared whatever by posting a comment below. If I can turn around and show him that there is some interest in learning more from him, I am sure he will find the time to spare 15 minutes on Skype talking to me.
Can you think of other photographers who are both masters at their craft, know lighting and know how to teach it really well? Mention their names or better yet, drop their links in the comments section below. I'll contact them and see if they would be interested in a quick interview.
